Cyber AI Comparison team · Based on vendor websites, docs and funding announcements, last checked September 2026

What to know

Mate Security scores 7.80 and Cortex XSOAR 7.25. Mate leads on investigation depth, explainability and human-in-the-loop controls. What is the real decision?

For an XSOAR customer the choice is not XSOAR against nothing. Palo Alto describes Cortex AgentiX as the next generation of XSOAR, with agents that reason and act within existing roles and natural-language prompts inside playbooks. So the decision is between adding AI inside the playbook model you have, and moving to a platform where AI investigation is the model and playbooks become Gamebooks.

When does staying on XSOAR make more sense?

When your playbooks are stable and well maintained, when you need on-premises deployment (XSOAR 8 On-prem, documented to reach end of life on 30 September 2029), when you depend on Marketplace content packs, or when your Palo Alto footprint makes consolidation valuable.

When does moving to Mate make more sense?

When the long tail of alerts, not the known patterns, is where analyst time goes; when every tool swap breaks playbooks; or when you want investigations grounded in a context graph of your environment with explicit autonomy modes. Mate says it translates SOAR playbooks and keeps custom logic, which lowers the cost of moving.

How would you test it?

Take a month of closed alerts. Replay the ten most common and ten of the rarest alert types through XSOAR with AgentiX prompts added, and through Mate in Recommend only mode. Compare verdicts against what your analysts decided, and time how long each needed from a human.
